At Grace United Methodist Church, we stand within the rich tradition of United Methodism, anchored in Scripture, shaped by grace, and called to live our faith in love and service. What follows is a summary of core beliefs that we hold — not as a checklist of perfect faith, but as a shared foundation that guides how we worship, serve, and relate to one another and the world.
We believe in one God, eternal, holy, and loving, who exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Though three persons, God is one in essence — Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
We believe God became human in Jesus Christ. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus reveals God’s redeeming love and brings salvation for all who believe. His resurrection is the assurance of new life.
The Holy Spirit is God’s present activity in our lives and in the world. The Spirit comforts, convicts, guides, and empowers us. When we sense God’s leading, challenge, or presence, we trust that the Spirit is at work.
We regard the Bible — both Old and New Testaments — as the primary authority for our faith and practice. It is inspired by God and speaks to us across time, calling us to follow Jesus.
Grace is central in Methodist theology. We teach that God’s grace comes first (prevenient grace), restores us through faith (justifying grace), and continues to shape us (sanctifying grace). We cannot save ourselves; we depend on God’s grace every step of the way.
We believe all people are created in the image of God, with dignity and purpose. But sin has wounded our relationship with God and one another. Redemption is found only in Christ, who invites us to repentance, faith, and transformed life.
The church is both visible and invisible — the community of believers on earth and those united with Christ across time. As the body of Christ, we’re called to worship, nurture one another, and be Christ’s presence in the world.
United Methodists recognize two sacraments commanded by Christ:
Baptism: a sign and seal of God’s grace, marking entrance into the covenant community.
Holy Communion (Open Table): a sacred feast to which all are invited. We practice open communion, meaning the Table is open to all who seek Christ — not just members.
We believe in the reign (or kingdom) of God — a present reality and future hope. This means God is working today to bring justice, peace, healing, and reconciliation, even as we await the full fulfillment at Christ’s return.
United Methodists are committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. That means proclaiming God’s grace, teaching obedience to Christ, and loving God and neighbor.
We do this not in isolation but together — using the means of grace (worship, prayer, scripture reading, service) and living out Wesley’s General Rules: do no harm, do good, stay in love with God.
Within the UMC (and at Grace UMC), we recognize that faithful Christians may disagree on many secondary matters. We affirm that unity in Christ is more important than uniformity of opinion. We commit to love one another — even in disagreement — holding fast to the essentials of faith while giving grace and space in other areas.
Our beliefs don’t serve as walls, but as bridges — connecting us to God and to one another. They guide us but never limit the work of the Spirit. If you’re exploring faith, questioning, or seeking meaning, you’re welcome here. Grace is offered anew every day.
